Transnational Meeting in Barcelona: Promoting Equality and Inclusion in Sports

The vibrant city of Barcelona recently hosted a Transnational Partner Meeting as part of the “Moving On” project, which aims to promote equality, inclusion, and participation of Roma and Traveller communities in sports. This initiative seeks to strengthen the positive narrative around these communities, counter antigypsyism, and enhance inclusion strategies at local, national, and European levels.

The meeting brought together the partners from across Europe, who are committed to using sports as a tool for social inclusion and combating discrimination. Key discussions revolved around creating safe and welcoming environments for Roma and Traveller participation in sports, while also highlighting their positive contributions to local communities.

Workshops focused on strategies to dismantle stereotypes, enhance grassroots sports programs, and foster cooperation between local authorities, sports clubs, and advocacy groups. The partners also shared best practices for implementing inclusive sports programs that can serve as models across Europe.

By fostering collaboration and exchange, the “Moving On” project aims to change the narrative around Roma and Traveller communities, ensuring that sports become a space for empowerment, unity, and mutual respect. The outcomes of this Barcelona meeting will contribute to future actions aimed at improving social cohesion and promoting diversity in the sporting world.
