We are thrilled to invite you to the Moving ON Final Event, bringing together all the incredible associations that participated in our journey! 🎉

This event will feature a panel discussion focused on enhancing access to sports and physical activity for Roma, Sinti, and Traveller communities and exploring how sports can be a powerful tool for anti-racism. The panellists—experts, advocates, and members of these communities—will share insights on overcoming barriers to inclusion in sports and discuss strategies to promote positive representation and solidarity through athletics.

Following the panel discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to engage directly with the panellists in a Q&A session, fostering an open dialogue around these critical issues. The event will close with an informal networking session where participants can connect and discuss the themes over coffee or tea, building community and reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the gathering.

Attendees in the event are also encouraged to visit the project’s exhibition on Roma, Sinti, and Travellers in Sport after the event. The exhibition details are below:

A Sporting Chance: An Exhibition of Roma, Sinti, & Travellers Fighting Racism in Sport
Rue Lebeau 43, 1000 Bruxelles, 25 November – 1 December 2024 (14h – 19h, or by appointment)

Based around the concept of a football ‘fanzine’ (also available in print on request), this exhibition highlights the experiences of Romani and Traveller people in sport, both historical and contemporary, and serves as an anti-racist celebration of sport as a tool to fight discrimination. The fanzine is blown up to exhibition size and depicted in a series of vignettes of Romani & Traveller athletes, alongside historical photographs and accounts, a healthy dose of sport-obsessed and anti-fascist fan culture, as well some highlighted interviews with community players, coaches, and referees.

The exhibition is created by sports-crazy human rights activists from the European Roma Rights Centre and is curated by the acclaimed, Serbian visual artist and documentary filmmaker, Vojin Ivkov.

A Sporting Chance presents a compelling insight into the boundaries and communities that exist between activist art, sport, and the human rights challenges faced by Europe’s largest ethnic minority group.

About the Project:
The MOVING ON project, funded by the European Commission’s CERV program (2023–2025), tackles the urgent need for greater inclusion of Roma, Sinti, and Traveller (RST) youth in sports. Spanning seven European countries—Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain—the initiative breaks down barriers to participation, champions gender equality, and fosters positive representation of RST communities. Beyond grassroots efforts, the project aims to shape EU policies on sports, health, and education, showcasing sports’ transformative power for social equity.
